Prague - The project documentation for the planned Dvorecký Bridge between Prague 4 and Prague 5 will be prepared by Tubes/Atelier6 for 132.72 million crowns. The city will sign the contract with the company by the end of this April. This follows from the material approved by the Prague councilors today. They also approved the selection of the contractor for the documentation for the construction of the Holešovice-Karlín footbridge. The construction of the Dvorecký Bridge is estimated to cost around one billion crowns and could be completed in four years.
The selected company will provide the city with all the necessary documents. Among them will be the materials for issuing the zoning decision and building permit, and at the same time, they will prepare the documents necessary for the tender for the bridge contractor.
The Dvorecký Bridge is expected to improve the transport connection between the Zlíchov and Podolí banks of the Vltava River. It will only serve public transport vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists; cars are not expected on it. The eastern exit of the bridge will be near Žluté lázně, north of Jeremenková Street. The western end will lead near the tram stop Lihovar. The project includes a proposal for a new tram stop, Dvorecký Bridge. Deputy Mayor Adam Scheinherr (Praha Sobě) stated that the construction of the bridge could start in 2022.
The city selected the authors of the bridge design in an architectural competition that attracted 45 proposals. The winning design references Cubism and does not have a structure above the bridge deck, so members of the selection committee believe it will blend in unobtrusively with the Vltava Valley.
The documentation for the construction of the footbridge from Holešovice to Karlín will be prepared by Marek Blank, who won the tender. He will provide the city with the necessary documents for issuing the zoning decision and building permit, among others. Prague will pay nearly 30 million crowns for them. The footbridge will connect both districts across Štvanice Island. On the Holešovice bank of the Vltava, access to the footbridge will be at Bubenské nábřeží in front of the entrance to the Prague Market. In Karlín, it will lead to the bike path along the flood barrier. Currently, the banks are connected by a ferry. "It is the third most successful of the ferries, and it is evident that this connection is lacking," said Scheinherr. Construction could start in 2021 or 2022 and will cost a maximum of 200 million crowns.
Prague is also considering connecting Prague 7 and 8 with a new Rohanský Bridge. According to Scheinherr, two studies will now be created regarding its location, shape, and design of the bridgehead. In Karlín, it will lead into Urxova Street, but the exact location in Holešovice has not yet been decided.
The most recent bridge over the Vltava in Prague, the Troja Bridge, was opened in October 2014 and replaced the Troja tram bridge from 1981, nicknamed "Rámusák," whose operation ended on October 7, 2013. In December two years ago, the pedestrian bridge between Císařský Island and Troja collapsed. The city is preparing to build a temporary bridge. Several other bridges in Prague are in poor condition, such as Libeňský Bridge and Hlávkův Bridge, and the city is planning their repairs.
