Prague - Transportation in Prague is, according to the electoral leader of the Central Bohemian ČSSD David Rath, so dense that the northwestern part of the city bypass could run both the so-called northern and southern variants simultaneously. The probable future governor of the Central Bohemian Region, Rath, said this in response to information that he is advocating only for the route of the bypass through the territory of Central Bohemia. "In the future, I can imagine that the capital will build the Suchdol variant and the region the northern one," said Rath. "Even transportation experts agree that there should be two rings," stands behind Rath the head of the Central Bohemian Social Democrats, Richard Dolejš. The outgoing leadership of the region, led by Petr Bendl (ODS), supports the route of the bypass through Suchdol. The so-called southern variant is also advocated by the Prague City Hall, but the affected city districts of Suchdol, Lysolaje, and Dolní Chabry want the bypass to run, similarly to Rath, further north through Řež. Opponents of this variant argue that the southern variant is included in the land use plans and its rejection would mean postponing the construction of the bypass by several years. Rath recently stated that he would prefer to lead the missing section of the highway bypass further away from the metropolis, as it would be cheaper, faster, and technically simpler. Outgoing governor Bendl called it "nonsense." He noted that the southern variant was advocated by the late Social Democrat representative František Vnouček along with the region's leadership. Rath later added that his opinion does not change anything, but it does not mean that a route through Suchdol cannot be built. "I never said that the Suchdol variant must not be realized. Why would I talk about the Suchdol variant, which is purely a matter for the capital city of Prague’s municipality?" he pointed out. According to him, the Central Bohemian region will not interfere in this matter with Prague. "But we also expect and will firmly require that the municipality and city districts do not tell us what constructions we want or do not want to realize in the territory of the Central Bohemian region," he warned. There have been reports in the media that Rath encountered opposition from the Social Democrats in Prague 6 with his ideas, who have an opposing view on the bypass. "We are a democratic party, debates can be held about anything," Rath noted. Dolejš said that he sees no significant political conflict within the ČSSD on this issue.
