Most – The Monument to Mining Traditions and Mining Disasters in Most will be created according to the design by Jakub Klaška. The architect, who also works at the London office of Zaha Hadid Architects, conceived the work as a monumental raised incision into the terrain, symbolizing the extraction of coal in the landscape. The city informed about the winner of the artistic competition on its website.

The monument will be located on the southern edge of the Square of the Great Most Strike in the center near the cultural house Repre. "This is a space that will be representative for this endeavor and will add importance to the future monument, so that the message of the reminder of mining traditions in Most is intense and unmistakable while being sensitive," the city hall stated.

Seventeen proposals were submitted to the open competition. A seven-member jury composed of city representatives and independent experts selected from them. "The main evaluation criterion was compliance with the conditions of the competition brief, particularly the relationship to the theme, the quality of the artistic aesthetic solution, scale and its functioning in public space, feasibility of the proposal, sustainability, and adherence to the expense limit for the realization of the work itself (maximum 1.8 million crowns excluding VAT)," the city reported.

The jury decided on the ranking of proposals in the top three places and awarded predetermined prizes for first, second, and third place, namely 90,000 crowns for 1st place, 60,000 crowns for 2nd place, and 30,000 crowns for 3rd place. Based on the competition results, a small-scale public contract will be awarded to the winner for the realization of the work. The top three proposals can be viewed on the city’s website.

The city originally planned to implement the project in September of this year. "The unveiling of the monument was to be part of the city celebrations that were planned alongside a meeting of mining towns. But currently, no one knows what it will look like in a few months, plus the author works in London and traveling is complicated. However, we anticipate that it will be completed in the autumn," city hall spokesperson Klára Vydrová told ČTK.
