Prague - The expert jury selected the winner of the architectural competition aimed at determining the design of the extended Hostivař cemetery in Prague. The team of authors proposed the construction of a high wall that will serve as a columbarium and simultaneously separate the cemetery space from its surroundings. The results of the competition are available to ČTK. "The jury appreciated the persuasiveness and clarity of the architectural solution, which works with a minimum of elements, and the timelessness of the chosen concept," the evaluation states. The transition from the original cemetery to the new part is creative and unobtrusive. The jury labeled the proposed method of storing urns in the wall as innovative. High grass should grow in the cemetery area. According to the authors, a forest park will be created next to the stone wall, which will serve, among other things, as a forest of memories.
The architectural competition for the expansion of the cemetery is exceptional in the context of Prague, according to experts. The winning designs could build upon the interrupted tradition of funerary architecture, which exceptional personalities in the Czech environment have engaged in in the past.
