Ostrava – The Ostrava municipal district of Poruba has selected the winning proposal for the revitalization of the Castle Park. The winner of the architectural competition is the Laboratory of Landscape Architecture from Bratislava. Work on the initial modifications according to the winning design could begin next year, spokesman for the municipal office Martin Otipka said today to ČTK.
The district will now sign a contract with the competition winner so that they can work on the project documentation. "We would like, considering the finances, to spread the project over several phases that could be realized independently," said Deputy Mayor Petra Brodová (ANO).
The transformation of Castle Park has been in preparation for a long time. Under the ground, a hot water pipe has already been laid, local garages have been purchased, and a materials collection point has been dismantled. According to the spokesman, the intention of the district is to transform the area into a quality urban park.
Therefore, the district announced an architectural competition for the revitalization of Castle Park. However, it managed to attract interested parties only on the second attempt. The first time, according to the spokesman, the demanding brief probably discouraged applicants. In the second competition, the district directly approached three architectural firms, and one applicant signed up for the open round. In the end, three competition designs were submitted.
"In February, the district will prepare an exhibition where the public will be presented with all three designs. People can also view them on the website fajnovaporuba.cz," Brodová added.
According to the evaluation of the expert jury, the winning design approaches the park with humility while preserving its spatial qualities. "The design is pleasantly simple; it does not try to adapt the park's space to its image but rather builds on its natural form, everything fits together naturally. It also preserves the natural character of the pond. We wanted an original solution, and this is original in that it does not attempt to impress at all costs, but instead enchants with its simplicity and naturalness," believes Mayor Lucie Baránková Vilamová (ANO).
