Work at the senior home on Nopová Street in Brno has moved above ground

Brno – The construction work on the senior home on Nopova Street in Brno has moved above ground after approximately four months. Both new buildings have foundations. Workers have completed the exterior walls of one building, while the other has a finished ceiling on the first floor, and the builders are working on the concrete. If all goes well, the work could be completed in November next year, and the first seniors could move into the home in the spring of 2028. Representatives from the contractor and the concessionaire told this to journalists today.

In constructing the home, the city partnered with the private sector and selected the concessionaire, which is the joint-stock company DS Nopova. The company prepared the entire project, is in charge of the construction, and will also operate the senior home for 30 years based on the contract. The costs of all the work will exceed 800 million crowns.

The new senior home will replace an old building from the 1970s, which workers have demolished. The new buildings, featuring five above-ground and one below-ground floor, will have a capacity of 300 beds, which is 75 more than the original facility had. There will be a total of ten departments on the individual floors, with two on each floor. "Each of these floors has its own clubhouse, its own day rooms, or nursing station and is capable of functioning independently," stated Jiří Dušek from DS Nopova.

"We have many years of experience in the construction and operation of senior homes thanks to the structure of our shareholders. It is important for us to provide clients with services of the highest quality, so the home on Nopova Street will be a pleasant, clear, and dignified place where they can feel at home," said Vladimír Odehnal, chairman of the board of the joint-stock company DS Nopova.

The concession, according to Dušek, stipulates that clients will pay for services according to the reimbursement decree. "This means that for a double room, a maximum of 625 crowns per day, and for a single room, 670 crowns. Clients must retain at least 15 percent of their pension," Dušek said. Interested parties will likely be able to apply in the second half of 2027. Clients who occupied the old senior home have been relocated to other facilities, primarily in Brno. Some will stay there, but they also have the option to return to the new one, said Jan Polák, head of the social department of the city of Brno.

The concessionaire is building on city land, which will remain the property of Brno. Likewise, the new senior home will also remain city property. The city will repay the investment, and after the term established by the concession expires, it will also become the operator of the senior home.
