Prague - This year, there will be slightly more work for project companies than last year, with directors expecting a year-on-year growth of 2.9%. However, the available capacities of designers will not be filled, according to the Project Company Study 2014 prepared by the analytical company CEEC Research and SGCP, a division of Weber. The study is based on the responses from more than a hundred directors of project companies.
This year will thus be the first year after a five-year decline where the volume of project work will grow. Seven out of ten directors believe in this. According to 52% of companies, private investments will primarily grow, while 47% of designers expect growth in public investments as well.
"Project orders are slowly starting to increase in the market, and we see greater growth in projects focused on railway or water management constructions. Unfortunately, there is still a lack of projects for road and highway constructions," said CEEC Research director Jiří Vacek.
This is confirmed by representatives of project companies, who believe, however, that growth is mainly driven by the private sector. "We are again seeing an increase in orders, especially from the industrial and banking sectors. However, there are still few public contracts," noted Petr Ščurkevič, director of the Land Construction Projections division of K4. Designers focusing on engineering constructions expect higher growth, while those in land construction are more pessimistic.
Even the anticipated moderate growth cannot compensate for the decline in volume of work over the previous five years. The current average utilization of capacities in project companies is at 83%. Compared to the situation a year ago, the utilization has improved by one percentage point.
