Prague - Prague 10 will look for a suitable plot of land for the construction of a new town hall. This was decided today by the local council. The project is expected to cost hundreds of millions of crowns. A tender will be announced for the plot. A hot candidate is a parcel in Hagibor, which was offered to the local council some time ago. The opposition disagrees with the plan, and TOP 09 left the meeting room in protest.
The future of the town hall in Prague 10 has been under discussion for several years. The current town hall, known as Vlasta, is in poor condition and requires significant renovation. Another option was to build a new building near the Strašnická metro station or to purchase an existing building or plot suitable for the construction of a town hall.
The committee dealing with the matter rejected the first two options last week and recommended to the councilors to announce a tender for a suitable plot for the new building. The councilors followed the recommendation.
In the past, the company Hochtief offered to build a new town hall on the plot in Hagibor, which would reportedly cost around 800 million crowns. The owners of the land will need to reapply for the new tender.
Today's meeting of the council, which was interrupted two weeks ago after discussing the budget, was accompanied by an emotional atmosphere. The opposition was upset that the item on the town hall's location was included in the meeting. It had been removed from the agenda two weeks ago at the meeting, which was subsequently interrupted and continued today. According to TOP 09, the meeting rules do not allow the re-inclusion of the item, and they want to file a complaint with the relevant authorities regarding the council's procedure. The representatives of the town hall rejected the criticism, stating that it was not a re-inclusion but a new item. In protest, TOP 09 councilors left the meeting room.
Residents of the municipality also protested against the decision. They believe that such an investment should be decided by the new council only after the municipal elections in the autumn. "We know that you are entangled in complicated personal connections and various pressures are being created on you, you are still just people," appealed Martin Moravec from the initiative Together for the Ten, urging councilors not to support any of the proposed options. The deputy mayor Radomila Kleslová (ANO) also voted against it.
Residents spread a large banner in front of the town hall, in which they compared the leadership of the municipality to vampires; they claimed that they are draining the budget of Prague 10.
According to the mayor, a final decision due to various timelines for the tenders will be made at the next council meeting. The tender should be announced by the end of March, and the results are expected to be submitted to the councilors by the end of May.
