Prague - Prague 10 has announced a tender for the construction of a new town hall for 775 million crowns. The leadership of the municipal district is looking for a plot of land where the building could stand as part of the selection process. The winner should also prepare a study for the new headquarters of the municipal district management and construct it. Construction could begin in November, thus it would be commissioned by the current leadership of the municipal district. This was discovered by ČTK from the public procurement bulletin. The selection process is set to start on April 19. The plan for the construction of the town hall is causing controversy in the municipal district.
The construction of a new headquarters has been discussed in Prague 10 for some time, as the current building is in unsatisfactory condition. However, the coalition and opposition cannot agree on whether to renovate the current town hall or build a new one and possibly where. At the end of February, the councilors decided that Prague 10 would look for a suitable plot for the new construction. A strong candidate is a parcel in Hagibor, which had already been offered to the municipal district some time ago.
The preliminary announcement regarding the tender, which was published today in the public procurement bulletin, includes the sale of plots suitable for construction, the preparation of studies and all levels of project documentation, technical supervision, and the actual construction of the new headquarters. The plots must be located in the area of the tenth municipal district and must be easily accessible by public transport and by car.
According to the announcement form, construction could begin on November 1, and it should be completed by the beginning of January 2016. The mayor of Prague 10, Bohumil Zoufalík (Independents), stated at the council meeting that the decision on the tender will be made by the councilors who will emerge from the October elections.
The current town hall, known as Vlasta, is in poor condition and would require significant renovation. Another option was to build a new building near the Strašnická metro station, or to purchase an existing building or land suitable for constructing a town hall. The commission dealing with the matter rejected the first two options.
In the past, the town hall was offered a proposal by Hochtief for a new building on the plot in Hagibor. The owners of the land will have to reapply in the new tender. According to speculation, behind the Vinohradská development company, which owns the necessary plots in Hagibor, is the controversial entrepreneur and politician Tomáš Hrdlička.
