Prague - The capital city has prepared changes to the zoning plan which should allow for the reconstruction of Masaryk, Smíchov and the Žižkov Cargo Station. However, none of these will likely be completed in the near future. Jitka Cvetlerová, director of the city planning department, told ČTK. Prague 5 has reservations about the reconstruction of the Smíchov station, while a dispute is ongoing regarding the preservation of the post office building at Masaryk station. The Žižkov station is also waiting to see if its main building will be declared a cultural monument.

According to Cvetlerová, the change concerning Masaryk station seems to be the closest to approval. However, the latest version of the proposal has reflected a dispute over the preservation of the post office building, which is requested by heritage protectors. "There was no agreement, so space had to be returned to the northern part of the station, which was originally intended for development," Cvetlerová stated. Only the area towards the Florenc bus station would be reserved for construction. However, the investor disagrees with this direction, according to Cvetlerová.
The change will be displayed at the Prague municipality from February 15, and a public discussion will take place on March 16. Changes regarding the Žižkov Cargo Station and Smíchov station were already discussed with the public in January.
Prague 5 has raised concerns about the plan for the reconstruction of Smíchov station, which prompted them to have a new study prepared. The original proposal included the routing of traffic along Vltavská Street around the Women's Houses, which the city council does not approve of. The city hall has a different opinion on the location of the bus terminal, representatives stated in the February issue of the city newsletter Pětka pro vás. "We probably won't approve that change either. If the city district's requests are accommodated, everything will have to be resolved and discussed again," Cvetlerová noted.
In the case of the Žižkov Cargo Station, the change is awaiting a decision from the Ministry of Culture regarding the declaration of the station building as a monument. "Nothing new yet. It is in process," said ministry spokesperson Eva Tichá to ČTK. The ministry, however, has evaluations available that support the declaration of the monument. It is therefore assumed that the building could become a monument. "This would mean revising the study, solving the transportation issues with regard to preserving the building, and then discussing again," Cvetlerová stated.
The dilapidated Vyšehrad station is also awaiting reconstruction. Representatives of Prague 2 announced today that they have reached an agreement with the investor regarding the form of the reconstruction. The investor has reduced the height of the planned extensions, and the city district promises not to appeal against any potential building permit. Developers also plan to reconstruct the station in Bubny in the future.
