Prague – Prague will make a change to the zoning plan necessary for the construction of a new district on land near the Letňany metro station. This was decided today by the city councilors. In collaboration with the state, buildings for state officials, apartments, and a hospital are also being considered on the parcels. Representatives of the surrounding districts are demanding that the city complete the transportation infrastructure before construction begins.

In addition to the change in the zoning plan, the city council plans to create an urban study for the entire area. According to Deputy Mayor for Urban Development Petr Hlaváček (TOP 09), the change includes apartments, a reasonable amount of office space, and a reserve for a hospital with around 1,000 beds. The development area of Letňany - Kbely also includes private land, where the PPF group plans to build the new district on the site of the current sports airport, and the Avia Letňany complex is also expected to undergo transformation.

Today, Hlaváček incorporated a comment into the approved resolution based on the requests of the mayors of Prague 9, Kbely, Letňany, and Čakovice, stating that it is necessary to finalize the transportation infrastructure to serve the new district, particularly both city ring roads and the Vysočany radial. "The project certainly implies a certain burden on the area and raises the need for significant investments in transportation infrastructure, not only from the city but also from the state. I understand the concerns of the districts and we will do everything possible to ensure that we do not fail in this matter," said the deputy mayor.

Regarding the state's plan to build a complex for officials on the land, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) and Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates) previously clashed. In the past, the prime minister called on the city council to transfer their land in Letňany to the state. The city opposed this; Hřib rejected the idea of a "bureaucratic ghetto" and conditioned the transfer of land to the state on several conditions, such as financial contributions for completing the city ring road. This was followed by ongoing negotiations, which included exchanges of buildings and land between the city and the state, and a promise from the state to contribute 60 billion to the city for the completion of the city ring road. In the middle of this year, the possibility also arose that the state could completely take over the completion, but a decision has not yet been made.
