Prague - The leadership of Prague has approved the selection of a contractor for the project documentation for the reconstruction of the burned wing of the Industrial Palace at Prague's Exhibition Grounds. The winner of the competition is the company VPÚ Deco, which will prepare the documentation for 37.9 million crowns excluding VAT. Jan Wolf (Coalition/Christian Democratic Party) communicated this to ČTK. Once Prague has these documents, it will announce a tender for a construction contractor based on them. Until then, a temporary tent will be set up at the site of the wing. The Art Nouveau wing of the Industrial Palace burned down in October 2008, and since then, a temporary tent has been in its place.

"We are the first council that has taken a concrete step towards the reconstruction of the burned wing of the Industrial Palace. The company will have 488 days from the signing of the contract to carry out the project documentation. After that, the city will look for a contractor," said Wolf.

After the fire, the city had a temporary tent erected. Subsequently, a temporary hall was planned to be built for 200 to 300 million crowns. In the end, it will not be built, but a new tent with a modular structure will be created, which can be either depreciated, sold, or used elsewhere.

The fire engulfed the Art Nouveau Industrial Palace on October 16, 2008, destroying its left wing. The situation around the exhibition grounds, which is protected as a monument, has been addressed by Prague for several years. Some time ago, the city freed itself from a long-term and, according to some opinions, unfavorable lease agreement with the company Incheba. However, this company will hold some other events at the exhibition grounds until 2018.

The Exhibition Grounds at Stromovka were established in 1891 on the occasion of the Jubilee Land Exhibition. The flood in 2002 caused significant damage to the area. Some buildings will be demolished due to their poor condition.
