Prague - The Prague Municipal House wants to open itself more to the public. The goal of its new director, Tomáš Vacek, is to better utilize the possibilities of the building, where, alongside exhibitions and concerts, weddings and auctions could also take place. "I don't want the Municipal House to be just a tourist attraction," Vacek said to reporters today, adding that the venue offers high-quality services.

Councilor Milan Richter (ODS) pointed out that few people know that the Municipal House has a well-equipped billiards room or a café. According to him, these are usually not open. "We have a great house, but we need to get people in there," he said.
Vacek replaced Michaela Hejtmánková as head of the Municipal House, who left after about five months at her own request. The new director wants to first complete the transformation of the Municipal House from a city-funded organization into a joint-stock company. Audits have, for example, discovered that the number of employees can be reduced from around eighty to half.
Based on today's decision of the city council, Vacek has become a new member of the board of directors of the Municipal House joint-stock company, which leases the building from the city. Richter has stepped down from the supervisory board. Councilor Jan Choděra from the ČSSD has moved from the board of directors to the supervisory board.
The new director graduated from law school and has previously worked in the private sector. Four years ago, he became the head of the municipal property department at the Prague 10 municipality. Richter is still the mayor of this district.
