Prague - The figure skating revue Ice Evening was ceremonially opened on March 7, 1962, in the Sports Hall in Prague-Bubench, which has been named Tipsport Arena since 2011. Until 2015, the hockey players of Prague's Sparta played their home matches in the hall, and now it is used for training. Since the late 1970s, concerts of popular music have been held here, the hall hosted the World Ice Hockey Championships four times (1972, 1978, 1985, and 1992), twice (1972 and 1985) the Czechoslovak team celebrated the title, in 1980 Czechoslovak tennis players won the Davis Cup here, and figure skaters as well as basketball players were also successful here.

The multifunctional hall was called the Sports Hall until 1999, then Paegas Arena, T-Mobile Arena, Tesla Arena, and since December 2011, it has been named Tipsport Arena. It provides over 10,000 seats and 1,300 standing places (for hockey) and 8,000 for concerts. The original capacity was 18,700 viewers.

The decision to build a new sports hall with artificial ice in Prague was made in December 1952. It was to be created by reconstructing the so-called Engineering Palace, which was built in Stromovka in 1907 and where well-known sample fairs were held. However, these were moved to Brno after 1947, and the large building of the Engineering Palace remained unused. The reconstruction of the palace was halted in 1954 due to high financial costs, and work did not resume until the autumn of 1958. The reconstruction of the steel structure of the original hall utilized six frame columns from the old building. Architecturally, it resulted in a unique shard structure in the three-nave hall for its time.

After the hall's opening, the newspaper Československý sport wrote about a "world-class work," which reinforces the "building of a developed socialist society." The hall was opened by the Chairman of the National Assembly, Zdeněk Fierlinger. In March 1962, the World Figure Skating Championships were held here, in which the home siblings Roman won in ice dance.

The first match of the hockey league, Spartak Prague Sokolovo (then Sparta) against ZKL Brno, took place on October 17, 1962, with the Prague team winning 5:4. In addition to numerous concerts and shows, Czechoslovak basketball players won bronze at the European Championship here in 1981, for example.
