Trutnov - In the space in front of the Uffo cultural center in Trutnov, seven bronze sculptures by Michal Gabriel were ceremoniously unveiled today. Dana Netolická from the Gallery of the City of Trutnov told ČTK. Along with the unveiling of the sculptures, a café and underground garages with approximately eighty spaces began operating in the center. The sculpture set titled Pack consists of seven bronze predators. It was last exhibited at this year's exhibition of Gabriel's work in the Trutnov gallery, which purchased it for its collections thanks to a contribution from the city hall and decided on its permanent placement in front of the Uffo building. "The arrangement of the individual sculptures was prepared with the author, who was also present at the placement of the sculptures on-site a week ago," Netolická said. In Trutnov, visitors can now admire, in addition to the seven bronze predators, an installation of 11 male bronze figures in life size by Gabriel along the banks of the Úpa River. The collection titled Players will be on display in Trutnov until the end of this October. "We will strive to make the exhibitions of sculptures along the banks of the Úpa River a tradition in the coming years,” added Netolická. The fifty-year-old Gabriel is one of the founding members of the artistic group Tvrdohlaví. In 1995, he received the prestigious Jindřich Chalupecký Award. His works can be seen in many places. He created, for example, a winged leopard above the entrance to the presidential office, fountains for Hradec Králové and Mladá Boleslav, and horse sculptures for the water cascade in Prague 6. The Uffo center will open its doors with a three-day program that will take place on the last weekend of September, featuring groups such as Čechomor. The construction of the new Uffo cultural center building, costing approximately 480 million crowns, began in October 2008. The city hall obtained about half of the funds from European grants. The name Uffo pays tribute to the significant native of Trutnov, Uffo Horn, who was active in culture and politics in the 19th century. The building allows for various setup options - from a theater stage to a concert arrangement that will accommodate up to 700 visitors.
