Přerov - Due to poor condition, the footbridge over the Strhanec stream on Riedlova street in Přerov is set for demolition. A new, wider bridge will be built in its place, which can also be used by cyclists. This was decided by the Přerov city council. The costs for constructing the new bridge are estimated at two to three million crowns. This was reported today by the city hall spokesperson Lenka Chalupová. In Přerov, other much larger bridges are currently being demolished due to their poor condition, namely those on Dluhonská street. The city plans to focus on bridges in local parts in the future.
When building the new bridge on Riedlova street, the city council favored the option that includes its expansion. "Given that the bridge will be designed with a lifespan of one hundred years, now is a unique opportunity to build it wider by one to one and a half meters, so that it smoothly connects to both sidewalks and allows for conflict-free movement of cyclists," said Deputy Mayor Pavel Košutek (ANO). The footbridge is currently 2.4 meters wide, and cyclists use it as a shortcut from the city center to the Kopaniny housing estate, contrary to regulations.
The city hall intends to focus on other bridges in local parts soon. "Two more bridges will be repaired in Žeravice in the near future, one of which is already closed due to its emergency condition. Bridges will also be replaced in the local parts of Vinary, Popovice, Penčice, Lověšice, and a new bridge is also awaited on Skopalova street in Přerov. The repair or new construction of each of these bridges will cost the city one and a half to three million crowns," added the city hall spokesperson.
In recent years, Přerov has also repaired or constructed some other bridges. In 2012, the new Tyrš bridge over the Bečva River was opened for 120 million crowns, replacing an inadequate and rusty footbridge from the mid-1960s. The new bridge near the tennis courts, which cost 24 million crowns, connected both banks of the Bečva in 2015. The structure of the original bridge was severely damaged by previous floods.
Another significant investment is the construction of two new Dluhonské bridges over the railway, which will cost 104 million crowns. They will replace bridge structures that are in poor condition. From the State Transport Infrastructure Fund, the city received more than 88 million crowns for the construction.
