Zlín - The Zlín city hall has canceled the tender for the contractor of the congress center building, which is set to be constructed in the city center, and has announced a new one. The changes in the project, which concern the hall where the Zlín Philharmonic is to perform, prompted this decision. According to opponents of the project among city representatives, this will increase the cost of the giant center. Its defenders, led by Deputy Mayor Irena Ondrová, reject this claim. This is reported in today's issue of Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD).
The building is intended to create a joint complex with the new university center. "The budget for the municipal part of the center estimates a sum of 523 million crowns. Whether additional work will need to be paid for is something no one can say right now. I believe we will stay within the budget if we save elsewhere," Ondrová explained. The city is building the center together with Tomas Bata University, which has already received over 400 million crowns from the state for its part. Zlín is currently drawing funds primarily from its own budget.
"The city does not have the financing for the entire construction covered. And after changes in the project and the cancellation of the tender, costs will certainly increase," stated councilor Jana Bubeníková. She therefore suggests that the project implementation be halted after the completion of the underground garages currently under construction, and that work continue only after financing is resolved. However, this is rejected by the city and university leadership. The planned center is to house the Zlín Philharmonic, and the university would like to include its library among other facilities here.
