Brno - About 70 former employees of Bauhaus in Brno - Ivanovice protested today against their dismissal. They did not show up for work due to the non-opening of the already constructed market, which, according to the activists, was permitted based on a disputed certificate. Police closed the exit from the road leading to Svitavy to Ivanovice due to the demonstrators. People hope for a faster investigation of the case by the court from today’s action. They also want to defend themselves with a petition, said the organizer of the event, Zdeněk Strmiska, today to ČTK. Bauhaus in Brno - Ivanovice is completed and stocked with goods. Employees have already been waiting for its opening for three quarters of a year, which is unlikely to happen in the foreseeable future. They have been working at another Bauhaus branch but received their dismissal by the first of July. Activists from the Nesehnutí association opposed the opening of Bauhaus, claiming that the construction was made possible by a disputed certificate. They challenged it, and the court granted a suspensive effect on the construction, which thus cannot be opened yet. According to Strmiska, the problems faced by employees arose precisely due to the slow progress of the court in Prague, which is dealing with the disputed construction. "They have time for this, we don't. That’s why we decided to demonstrate. We also organized a petition that we will send to the parliament, and we currently have around 4000 signatures," Strmiska told ČTK. The employees also addressed an open letter to the city and regional leadership, but the replies were, according to Strmiska, evasive. According to police spokesperson Andrea Straková, the demonstration went smoothly. "The police slowed down cars on the main route to Svitavy, but no traffic jams formed, and everything went calmly," Straková confirmed to ČTK. The construction of the hobby market in Ivanovice was enabled by a certificate issued by the authorized inspector Milan Teigiser. Activists who have been protesting against the construction for a long time filed a lawsuit against the certificate. Until the Municipal Court in Prague makes a decision on it, Bauhaus will remain closed due to the granted suspensive effect. Bauhaus estimated the damage related to a potential complete thwarting of the investment at 2.24 billion crowns.
