Brno – An international team of experts will assist with the selection of organs for the upcoming Janáček Cultural Center in Brno. Alena Veselá, the emeritus rector of the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts, organist, and initiator of the construction of the new concert hall, will be an honorary member. The members of the expert working group for the public contract were appointed today by the Brno city councilors. They will be involved in all important steps, whether it concerns the specification of the instrument, the correctness of the tender documentation, or the professional assessment of the submitted offers. This was stated in a press release by Mayor Markéta Vaňková.
"Given the international ambition of the hall, the expected financial demands, and the very specific subject of such a contract, we need to closely cooperate with top external experts. The expert working group appointed today will therefore be involved in all important steps. Only in this way can we guarantee that there will be new organs in Brno of corresponding properties and quality. I greatly appreciate that significant personalities accepted the offer of membership in the inner team," said Vaňková.
The seven-member expert group, which also includes German organist Christian Schmitt or the director of the Brno Philharmonic Marie Kučerová, will begin working in November. The price of the instrument will arise from negotiations during the preparation of the tender documentation. The city expects it to amount to tens of millions of crowns. Both individual and corporate donors can participate in the financing of the organs through a public collection.
Representatives of Brno signed a contract with the contractor of the center at the end of August. The construction site has now been handed over, and the company is preparing for the planned archaeological survey and the demolition of the former transformer station of the International Hotel. It is expected to be completed within three years, costing 2.3 billion crowns.
