Brno – Applicants for the contract to build the Janáček Cultural Centre in Brno can now submit offers until October 11. The deadline for the submission of offers or requests for participation was originally set to expire today. However, the city extended it due to modifications in the tender documents, as reported by the Brno City Hall. The competitive price for the construction of the new concert hall for the Brno Philharmonic is 2.4 billion crowns, and the construction will take at least three years.
Based on inquiries from potential applicants, the requirements for the person who will address audiovisual technology and acoustics in the project were amended in the tender documents. "This leads to an expansion of the scope of professional qualifications for these individuals to include a certified technician. The scope of authorization for a certified engineer, which was already mentioned in the documentation, and a certified technician is identical in this field," said City Hall spokesperson Filip Poňuchálek. According to him, this will expand the possibilities of participation in the competition.
On this occasion, the city also took into account the coordination of work for the upcoming construction of a new collector on Středová and Česká streets. To allow companies considering submitting offers to adapt to the changes, the council extended the offer submission period by two months.
"For projects of such scale, this procedure is not unusual. Examples of tender procedures in which the statutory city of Brno was the contracting authority or co-contractor, where the deadline for submitting applications for participation was extended due to changes in qualification conditions, include projects for flood control measures on Poříčí or the contract for the extension of the track to the Bohunice campus," Poňuchálek added.
The selection procedure for the company that will build the cultural center was announced by the city company Brněnské komunikace in June. City representatives had previously faced criticism from opposition councilors and cultural figures for postponing the construction of the concert hall. The Brno Philharmonic currently performs in the Besední House, where it cannot hold concerts in its maximum possible ensemble.
The hall, which will accommodate around 1200 people, will be located between Veselá and Besední streets. There used to be a parking lot here, which was replaced in 2018 by underground garages as the first phase of construction. However, they are currently inactive and unused, even though the city previously aimed for the construction of the concert hall to follow the construction of the garages.
