Polička - The town hall of Polička in the Svitavy region is preparing for the reconstruction of its covered swimming pool. In addition to repairing the facility built in the 1970s, an additional part with a children's pool is to be constructed, said mayor Jaroslav Martinů (ODS) to ČTK. The total costs are estimated at 100 million crowns, and the city aims to obtain a grant from the National Sports Agency for the project.
The town hall has had the project documentation for building permits prepared for two years, and the representatives have also allocated two million crowns in this year's budget for the implementation project of the construction. This would help the city with the points necessary for the grant. However, Martinů is concerned that even so, the city may not get the grant and would then have to carry out the reconstruction all at once, rather than in stages, which would be more manageable for the city’s budget.
"We could otherwise do part of it every year during the summer holiday shutdown of the pool, maybe first the air conditioning, then the drainage, and so on," Martinů stated.
According to him, Polička has other demanding commitments in the field of sports in the future. The city should take over a summer complex with football and hockey ball fields from associations and plans to build a tennis hall as well.
The swimming pool in Polička was completed in 1977 and began operations in October of that year. The building includes a swimming pool measuring 25 by eight meters with a maximum depth of 3.90 meters. The typical equipment of the space includes a three-meter diving board, in addition to which it offers a whirlpool for 11 people and a slide 63.58 meters long. Four lanes are prepared for competitive swimming. The facility operates a swimming school, fitness center, sauna, hairdresser, and massages.
