The director of the Gallery of the Capital City of Prague has become Juříková

Prague - Magdalena Juříková has become the director of the Gallery of the Capital City of Prague (GHMP). Today, she was appointed to the position by the city council on the proposal of the selection committee. Tereza Králová, spokesperson for the magistrate, said this in response to a query from ČTK. The new director will take office in November.
    Juříková (born 1956) recently served as the curator of the collection of the private Prague gallery Zlatá husa, founded by former Nova TV director Vladimír Železný. Previously, she worked as a curator of the collection of modern sculpture at the National Gallery. She also works as a journalist and critic.
    Ten candidates applied for the competition, including former director of the Moravian Gallery in Brno, Marek Pokorný, director of the Museum of Art in Brno, Rostislav Koryčánek, chief curator of GHMP, Karel Srp, and Petra Hoftichová, curator of the GHMP public sculpture collection, who previously led the gallery as acting director. According to the committee, Jurčíková presented the most comprehensive concept.
    The former director, Milan Bufka, who resigned from the position at the end of August, had served in the city gallery for nearly four years. He previously worked as an administrator of the bankruptcy estate of Škoda company. He announced his resignation in June this year after the city leadership criticized him for exceeding the budget for the Slovanská epopeje exhibition. However, Bufka defended himself against the allegations.
