Kutná Hora – In Kutná Hora, a large reconstruction of the Sankturin House, which is one of the oldest historical buildings protected in the city, should be completed by the end of the year. The construction project, which started last year, was slowed down by COVID-19, and the discovery of a cracked load-bearing column complicated it further. The workers have now completed a large part of the work, and the city management is addressing the interior furnishings. This week, the council announced a tender for the supply of audiovisual technology and software equipment, said Mayor Josef Viktora to ČTK.
In the neighboring building, whose repair is part of the extensive project, workers discovered a cracked column. The vaults had to be temporarily supported, which increased the cost of the reconstruction. Originally, the costs were supposed to be 60 million crowns excluding VAT, but according to Deputy Mayor Vít Šnajdr (Pirates), they are likely to rise by ten percent. Most of the costs will be covered by a grant.
After the repairs are completed, the Sankturin House will be more open to visitors, who will be able to explore it from the basement to the top floor, including the attic. The information center and the Felix Jenewein Gallery moved from the Sankturin House to temporary premises during the reconstruction. The gallery is now located in the House U Havířů on Šultysova Street, while the information center is on Kollárova Street.
Originally Gothic, the later Baroque reconstructed building was established at the end of the 13th century as a fortified tower structure of a manufacturing nature. Silver ore was processed in the smelting facilities here. Among its peculiarities is the historical tower, whose foundations reach a depth of 7.5 meters. At the end of the 15th century, the house was purchased by the mint master Beneš from Trničí, who transformed it into a luxurious palace. During a large fire in the city center in 1770, the building was burned down, and in the subsequent reconstruction, it took on its current form.
