Kutná Hora - The renovation of the Sankturin House, which is one of the oldest historically protected buildings in the city, is expected to begin soon in Kutná Hora. Six bidders have applied for the construction company competition, and the city council has already approved the winning bid. However, the decision has not yet taken effect as the deadline for possible objections has not ended, said Mayor Josef Viktora (ANO) to ČTK.
It is therefore not yet known when the construction workers will start. It will depend on whether any of the unsuccessful bidders raise an objection. "If no one appeals, we can invite to sign the contract in mid-February," Jiří Janál, the head of the investment department, told ČTK.
The work is expected to last 13 months, so it could be completed in March next year. The costs are estimated to be around 32 million crowns excluding VAT.
The information center and gallery have already moved from the Sankturin House to temporary premises. The Felix Jenewein Gallery will be located in the U Havířů house on Šultysova Street during the renovation, while the information center is now in Kollárova Street.
In the Sankturin House, among other things, it is necessary to replace the floors and make new water and electrical installations. The building is expected to be opened to visitors to a greater extent after the renovation, allowing them to explore it from the basement to the highest floor, including the attic.
Originally Gothic and later rebuilt in the Baroque style, the structure was created at the end of the 13th century as a fortified tower building of a production character. Silver ore was processed in the metallurgical facilities here. One of the peculiarities is the historical tower, whose foundations reach a depth of 7.5 meters.
At the end of the 15th century, the house was purchased by the mint master Beneš from Trničí, who converted it into a luxurious palace. During a large fire in the city center in 1770, the building was burned down, and in a later reconstruction, it took on its current form.
