Říčany (near Prague) - The former cinema in Říčany near Prague could be converted into a community center. People expressed interest in the new use of the dilapidated building at Komenského Square, which ceased screening films in 2006, in a poll organized by the town hall. This was reported today by city spokesperson Adéla Ambrožová.
"If funding is obtained, one solution is a comprehensive conversion into a community center. The project includes a library, a student club, a café, facilities for social work, a maternal center, or a civic club, as well as space for senior meetings or school lessons," stated the spokesperson. The low-energy two-story building in a natural style is expected to have a grassy area on the roof, and visitors could also use a playground. The anticipated costs for the reconstruction were not disclosed by the city.
Currently, a cinema operates in the leisure center Na Fialce in Říčany, which also has a twenty-five-meter swimming pool and a sports hall. In the cultural hall there, in addition to film screenings, lectures are held and theater plays are performed.
Dobříš in the Příbram region is also planning to convert the former cinema into a community center. The building is intended primarily for associations and civic organizations and will serve as a meeting place for people. Recently, Votice in the Benešov region also converted its former cinema into a multifunctional center designed for cultural and social events.
The poll organized in Říčany revealed that excessive truck traffic is a significant concern for the residents. They also want to ensure safe routes to schools and address the future of the area where the remains of a planned prison stand.
