The Association for Pardubice wants the construction of city apartments in the barracks

Pardubice - The Association for Pardubice (SPP), which is preparing candidates for the elections to the city council and municipal districts, wants to support, among other things, housing construction. The city itself should take charge of part of this, with apartments potentially being built in the area of the former Masaryk Barracks, which Pardubice acquired from the state years ago, said Šárka Hošková today to journalists, who is leading the association’s candidate list in the fifth municipal district. According to her, it is especially important to proceed with a clear plan when utilizing the extensive area. The current city leadership plans to have an economic evaluation of the former Masaryk Barracks conducted.

"We would not like the barracks to be sold off to various developers without a comprehensive solution. The city needs starter apartments, apartments for the middle class, and a new retirement home. Developer construction is very expensive, and even the middle class won't be able to afford to buy an apartment," Hošková stated.

According to Tomáš Pelikán, the leader of the SPP candidate list for the city hall, the city itself should also build a home for the elderly. "Commercial entities are sometimes so expensive that neither the retirees nor their children can afford it," Pelikán noted. Hošková would like a kindergarten and primary school, medical care, and a meal preparation facility to be included in the Masaryk Barracks. It will also be essential to propose future traffic solutions for the area, where the population count will significantly increase.

The extensive area was acquired by the city four years ago, and it is considering how to utilize it. In the future, the current city leadership wants to offer the area to investors, but the development and utilization will be regulated by the prepared study. Helena Dvořáčková (ANO), the deputy mayor, recently told CTK about this.

In its electoral program, SPP emphasizes especially conceptual and efficient city management, security, leisure activities, as well as the expansion of schools, kindergartens, and the renovation of sports facilities. There is also an urgent need to implement intelligent traffic and parking management.
