Pardubice – The leadership of Pardubice is still considering what to do with the former military facilities that the city once acquired. Several studies have already been commissioned for the Hůrka and T.G. Masaryk barracks, but a final decision has not yet been reached. The situation was supposed to change with a working group made up of members of the city council and nominees from political parties, but it eventually recommended that different usage options for the barracks be developed, said Jan Nadrchal (ANO), the deputy mayor, to ČTK.

"A determination needs to be made on whether to sell them or if the city will build something there itself, whether to demolish the buildings or leave them standing and address the area with them. Specific individuals will be appointed to handle the projects," said Nadrchal.

In the past, the city managed to sell a smaller part of the former Hůrka barracks, which it has owned since 1999. An investor built residential buildings in the area, and there are also company headquarters and operations. The sale of the remainder of the site has repeatedly encountered errors by interested parties during the selection processes in recent years.

Before the economic crisis, in 2007, the company Eube sought the land to build a smaller housing estate. After the economic recovery, the company Pernštejn City wanted to buy the land for 15 million crowns. However, the city council rejected the direct sale twice.

In the past, Dušan Kačmarik from Altis CZ also expressed interest in the development of Hůrka, and a group of other investors, including the company RD Rýmařov, declared a general interest. However, none of them registered for the competition.

The T.G. Masaryk barracks have belonged to the city since 2014. The city hall commissioned a study for its use and considered offering the area to investors. It could also build accommodation facilities for seniors in the area with more or less specialized care. A private entity also applied in the past to build a basic church school there. Currently, there is a parking lot for temporary use in the empty area. The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has long planned the construction of a new employment office on the land on the outskirts, which is still located at several sites throughout the city.
