Blansko - The senior center in Blansko has been operating an extension since Friday, costing 53.5 million crowns. It is a facility with 40 beds for elderly people with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. It will be filled by mid-December at the latest. The new facility will provide employment for 23 people, said the center's director Lenka Dražilová today.

The facility consists of a retirement home and a home with a special regime specifically designed for seniors suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. It originally had 104 beds, with only 34 beds designated for the home with a special regime. The new pavilion is part of it.
It is intended for seniors with dementia who can no longer stay in home care. The project's original estimated cost was 60 million crowns. However, through competitive bidding for construction suppliers, it was significantly reduced to 53.5 million. The investor was the operator of the center - the regional office, which is also planning a similar investment in Kyjov.
The extension is a three-story building that was created next to the main building of the center. In addition to rooms, a dining hall, and common and relaxation areas, there is a classroom for healthcare professionals who care for people with Alzheimer’s disease. The classroom should be used not only by healthcare professionals from Blansko but from all over South Moravia.
"Although we offered beds to a relatively large number of seniors with the opening of the extension, we still have another 50 in the waiting list for admission to our center, so the interest in placing pensioners with dementia with us remains high,” added Dražilová.
