Ostrava - In the skyscraper Ostrava Towers Complex, which is set to be built in the center of Ostrava and become the tallest building in the Czech Republic, a Sheraton hotel from the Marriott International hotel chain is to open. The company has already signed a contract with the construction investor RT TORAX Group. Negotiations are also underway with potential operators for additional services, and preparations are being made for the construction of the skyscraper itself. This was announced to journalists today by the company's spokesperson Jindřich Vaněk.
The construction is to be located in an area called Slza near Forum Nová Karolina and is expected to become one of the landmarks of the regional city. Its design emerged from an international architectural competition won by the Danish studio ADEPT. The start of construction is scheduled for 2029, with the anticipated completion and launch of operations by 2032. The complex will consist of two towers. The hotel and additional services such as a restaurant or wellness center are to be located in the lower of the two towers.
According to Vaněk, the signing of the contract with the hotel chain, which operates in over 130 countries and owns dozens of brands, followed several months of negotiations between the investor’s representatives and hotel operators. "The realization of the Ostrava Towers Complex project is now in full swing. We are negotiating with service operators and closing contracts with experts who will address the technical aspects of the project, such as statics, foundation construction, or the building's energy independence,” stated Tomáš Häring, the founder of RT TORAX.
The company is also preparing a transportation study, the results of which will be presented to the Transport Department of the City Hall of Ostrava and the city leadership. "Naturally, we have been interested from the beginning in the architectural form of the building, which aims to become a prominent landmark of our city. However, we consider it crucial how the building will integrate into the life of the city's central part, how it will connect to its urban structure, and how it will revitalize this part of the city. Therefore, we are interested not only in the building itself but also in the future transportation solutions for the high-rise building and its connection to the surrounding public space so that it responds as well as possible to the needs of the people who move here every day,” said Mayor Jan Dohnal (Spolu).
According to him, the arrival of a new hotel chain will also benefit the city. "There has long been a lack of a five-star hotel in the city, whose facilities can be used by guests not only during various international events, including large festivals. I believe that a five-star hotel could actually be established in part of this new city landmark,” Dohnal added.
In the past, some Ostrava city councilors criticized the construction of the skyscraper, calling it completely unnecessary. The design of the project has changed several times. Originally, the skyscraper was to have only one tower.
