The NÚKIB headquarters in Brno is expected to be completed in 2024

Prague - The headquarters of the National Cyber and Information Security Authority (NÚKIB) in Brno, costing nearly one billion crowns, is set to begin construction in 2022 and should be completed two years later. This is indicated in a report on the progress of work that the authority will present to the government on Monday. The Czech News Agency (ČTK) has the report available. Construction is to be based on the design by last year's architectural competition winner, architect Ondřej Stehlík from the Austrian company AllesWirdGut Architektur. If, for any legal reason, this is not feasible, the next proposal in line would be used, the agency’s spokesman Radek Holý told ČTK.

The authority is currently located on Mučednická Street in Brno, and the new building in Černá Pole is expected to accommodate up to 400 employees in part of the original barracks. In addition to last year's architectural competition, NÚKIB noted in the document that last year one hall on the property, which was in a state of disrepair, was demolished. The preparation of project documentation is expected to cost 56 million crowns, while construction costs are estimated at 977 million.

According to materials for the government, the signing of a contract for the project documentation is planned for February this year, with the aim of obtaining a building permit scheduled for January to April next year. The construction contractor is expected to take over the construction site in December 2021 and complete the building in 2024.

NÚKIB was established in the summer of 2017 by separating from the National Security Authority (NBÚ). As a central administrative authority, it is responsible for cybersecurity, including the protection of classified information in information and communication systems. It also deals with non-public services within the Galileo satellite system. Currently, it is provisionally led by statutory deputy Jaroslav Šmíd, as the cabinet dismissed the agency's director Dušan Navrátil in December. Interested parties can apply for the selection process for his successor until February 28.
