Sokolov - The Sokolov Town Hall is likely to undergo reconstruction. The building, completed in 1981 for the district committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, is now completely inadequate from an energy perspective, and significant modifications would also be needed for the interior spaces. The city wants to invest over 120 million crowns into the repairs of the building with the help of subsidies, Sokolov's Deputy Mayor Jaromír Dvořák told reporters today.
"For years we said we would first invest in things for the citizens, in sidewalks, schools, and the like, and we postponed the repair of the town hall. Now, however, the time has really come for it," Dvořák stated.
The city has divided the repair into two separate projects, for the repair and insulation of the building's exterior and for interior modifications. "We want to apply the project both in the Regional Operational Program and to apply for subsidies from the Ministry of the Environment's programs. If we succeed in ROP, we will do both parts; if in the environmental program, then at least the insulation," Dvořák said.
For the insulation of the building, where most windows are already leaking, the city will need about 35 million crowns, and more than 80 million for the interior modifications. Especially the elevators are already on the brink of their lifespan.
The building of the town hall in Sokolov has not undergone major repairs during its existence. After the abolition of district offices and the transfer of state administration and self-government agendas, Sokolov did modify the extension of the building for the needs of the office, but the main building has not yet been addressed.
