TEPLICE - Workers will begin construction of the covered multifunctional sports hall in Teplice in the spring. They were supposed to build the foundations next to the football stadium at Stínadlech according to the original plan by the end of the year. "We disagreed with the proposal from the designers who did not adhere to our financial limit, which is why the construction has been slightly delayed," said Teplice Mayor Jaroslav Kubera today to ČTK. The hall will cost 153 million crowns. The city will pay for it from its reserve fund. One of the designers' proposals would have cost 250 million crowns. "That was unacceptable for us, as we refuse to go into debt for this investment," Kubera explained. The city is now preparing the building permit and the tender for the construction contractor. The necessary land has already been acquired by the magistrate. If the preparatory work does not drag on, athletes could start using the hall at the beginning of 2007. The facility will have a capacity for 600 people and will serve all indoor sports. Both professional and amateur teams will be able to train here in hall football, floorball, judo, tennis, or boxing. The city is also considering a squash court or bowling. Athletes will have six changing rooms with their own sanitary facilities, as well as a rehabilitation center including small pools. The council is also considering the possibility of accommodation in the building. The operator of the hall will be the city or a private individual. According to Kubera, the operating costs should be covered by rental fees.
