Kunštát – The repair of the roof of the lower castle and the complete renewal of the electrical installation in the main building of the castle continue at the Kunštát castle in the Blanensko region. They will also continue during this year's season, but will not affect its operation, said the castle curator Radim Štěpán.

"Both repairs are funded from the grant title of the Property Management owned by the state of the Ministry of Culture. A complete replacement of the roof covering was necessary at the lower castle, as well as the replacement of frames, some of which were rotten. The repair also includes the restoration of original dormers, which are documented in historical photographic documentation. They disappeared from the roof after the repair following a fire in 1921," Štěpán stated.

The company working on the roof took over the construction site last November, the work is progressing according to schedule and should finish this October. The repair is expected to cost around 3.5 million crowns. The visitor season will not be affected, as the lower castle is not normally open to visitors; it can only be accessed once a year during the European Heritage Days.

In November, work also began on the electrical installation in the main castle building, which is also expected to finish in October and cost around 2.7 million. Part of the work includes bringing electricity to sections of the castle that have not been electrified yet - the original count’s and guest rooms. "This will allow us to open a new tour route in the future, which will present these original rooms. However, it's a long-term endeavor, as we will need to restore all the wall paintings and all the furniture that is currently stored in the depository. We preliminarily estimate the costs for restoration and preparation of the tour at 50 million crowns," noted the curator.

The castle in Kunštát in the Blanensko region was built as a fortress in the 13th century, underwent reconstruction into a Renaissance castle in the 16th century, a Baroque reconstruction in the 17th century, and a Classicist modification at the beginning of the 19th century. In 1948, the castle was nationalized and served as a depository for the Moravian Regional Archive in Brno; since 2005, it has been managed by the National Heritage Institute and is open to the public.
