Karlovy Vary – The expert jury today awarded first place in the Karlovy Vary Region Building Competition to the renovation of the Municipal Hall in Loket. In the public vote, the most votes were received by the reconstruction of the Pluhovské houses in the grounds of the State Castle and Fortress Bečov. The results of the 21st annual competition, announced yesterday evening, were communicated to ČTK by the competition manager Anna Vlášková from the organizing Regional Construction Association Karlovy Vary.

The competition evaluates construction projects in the categories of building, project, and preserved monument. In addition to the expert jury, people also vote online for the best construction achievement in recent times. Special awards are also given by the Mayor of Karlovy Vary, the Governor of the Karlovy Vary Region, and the magazine Stavebnictví. A total of 34 buildings and projects entered the 21st annual competition. The accompanying category features preserved monuments, with six competing for public votes this year.

This year, the expert jury recognized the renovation of the Municipal Hall in Loket. Once a deteriorating landmark in the center of the town, it has been restored through reconstruction for cultural and educational purposes. The town of Loket managed to save a structure that had long been one of the most endangered monumentally significant and protected buildings in the Karlovy Vary Region. At the same time, the town, which was the investor, sought to preserve as many original elements as possible. The jury also praised the reconstruction of the Pluhovské houses at the Bečov Castle and the modifications of the Mill Colonnade in Karlovy Vary.

Among the projects, experts appreciated the design of the Theater Boulevard in Karlovy Vary, which is expected to change the nature of the public space between the Imperial Spa and the Hot Spring Colonnade in the future. The jury also liked the project for the conversion of the former customs house into a museum of the Ore Mountains in Boží Dar and the project of the House of Seventeen Herbs in Abertamy.

The Governor of the Karlovy Vary Region, Petr Kulhánek (for STAN), then praised the reconstruction of the Pluhovské houses in Bečov. The Mayor of Karlovy Vary awarded her recognition to the Senior Home in Karlovy Vary. The expert magazine Stavebnictví awarded its prize to the restoration of Dvorský Bridge over the Ohře River in Karlovy Vary.

This year, 8,635 people participated in the online voting. In addition to the reconstruction of the Pluhovské houses, the public also appreciated the House of Seventeen Herbs in Abertamy among the projects and voted for the building Golden Deer in Karlovy Vary among the preserved monuments.

Today, awards were also received by the designer Jiří Kovařík and the construction manager Jan Kubeš, as well as Jan Procházka for his lifetime achievement in the field of construction in the Karlovy Vary Region.
