Šternberk Hospital opened a new internal pavilion for 260 million CZK

Šternberk – More space, modern equipment, and better facilities are provided to patients and doctors by the new internal pavilion at Nemocnice AGEL Šternberk, whose construction took 30 months and cost nearly 260 million Czech crowns. The new pavilion was ceremonially opened today and will fully serve patients from the end of this summer. This was stated to journalists today by the director of the Šternberk hospital, Katarína Bučková.

In the basement of the new building, there are technical facilities and staff changing rooms, while the other four floors accommodate spaces for both outpatient and inpatient sections of the internal department. "The first floor incorporates an outpatient section with all specialist clinics. The second and third floors are allocated for the standard inpatient section, with thirteen twin-bedded rooms on each floor. The last fourth floor houses an intensive care unit with ten beds," said the head of the internal department at Nemocnice AGEL Šternberk, Lukáš Prucek.

The new five-storey building was constructed on the site of the former directorate building. "This location was chosen with regard to practicality and functionality. It is in close proximity to the main building, where surgery, ARO, and radiodiagnostic departments are also located, and it allows for the connection of these buildings via a corridor. Thanks to the corridor, we can now move patients 'dry-footed' to further necessary examinations, which is faster and more comfortable, especially in bad weather and for less mobile patients," Bučková said.

Compared to the original solution, the new intensive care unit features a box system that ensures privacy for patients in serious condition and additionally allows for the isolation of infectious patients. The new standard rooms, among other things, come with their own bathrooms and air conditioning.

A further innovation is a high-quality echocardiography device that allows for more sensitive and accurate detection of heart and vascular anomalies. New equipment, including monitors and a central workstation for healthcare workers, is used for monitoring patients in the intensive care unit. "The advantage of the entire system, besides the continuous monitoring of vital functions, is also the large display that allows for good orientation even in a crisis situation, or an improved arrhythmia detection system, and additionally, if necessary, the possibility of EEG monitoring," Prucek noted.

The new internal pavilion has the characteristics of a passive low-energy building, which will make it almost energy self-sufficient. "In the case of constructing the new internal pavilion, we can speak of one of the largest investment projects in the Olomouc Region in the last decade. The total financial costs approached 260 million crowns, of which more than 200 million crowns were provided by the region from its budget," said the governor's deputy, Dalibor Horák.
