Not many Czech cities can boast a close connection with the legendary architectural association SIAL like Česká Lípa. Besides Karel Hubáček, you can find buildings by the current dean of ČVUT Zdeněk Zavřel, the founder of the Liberec School of Architecture Jiří Suchomel, and the professor of the Prague AVU Emil Přikryl. The fate of the Uran shopping center/Banco by the aforementioned architect led Pavel Nasadil to set a short task within his semester studio at Liberec's TUL with the aim of creating the most comprehensive photographic database of this endangered building. Although it is closer from Liberec to Česká Lípa than to Prague, many students visited here for the first time, even though the city with a rich historical tradition can offer its visitors more than significant objects of Czechoslovak architecture from the 1980s. The students' task was to document the current state of the Uran shopping center, which is likely to meet a similar fate as Hubáček's Ještěd department store in Liberec, as a demolition order has already been issued for the building, and the Czech Ministry of Culture refused to register it on the list of immovable cultural monuments. On Friday, April 27, 2012, in the afternoon, fifteen students gathered in the 'hangar' in Liberec to present their perspective on the building, its context, overall atmosphere, and individual details. The resulting works were ultimately evaluated by a trio of former Přikryl students (Pavel Nasadil, Jan Šépka, Petr Šmídek), of which the six best received a catalog by Emil Přikryl with a personal signature. The students traditionally managed to creatively approach the assignment. In today's digital age, many of them chose an analog path, and one of the awardees even used a self-made camera. The captured images ultimately ended up in the hands of the building's author and Professor Švácha for archiving.
