Šumperk – Šumperk will announce a competition for the construction of 90 municipal apartments on the site of the former Hedva textile factory. This was decided by the local council. According to Deputy Mayor Karel Hošek (Šumperáci), this is one of the largest investments in the city in recent years. The costs for the construction of 90 apartments, garage spaces for residents, and a public parking lot with 120 spaces are estimated to be 690 million crowns before the competition, Hošek told ČTK. Another 150 apartments are planned by the owner of Hotel Perk to be built on the site of the former Hotel Moravan.

Šumperk owns 300 municipal apartments. The majority are located in a panel building on ČSA street. The new municipal apartments will primarily target young couples and families, for whom two or three-room apartments will be designated. There will also be studio apartments available, for example, for seniors. "We have had a building permit since May, we have the project documentation for construction, and the selection of the contractor. On Monday, the council approved the tender conditions, so the city can announce a public procurement," stated the deputy mayor. The proposal will also go through the city council on June 15.

The competition is expected to start at the end of June. "The contractor selection process will last two months. We would like to have the contract signed in the autumn of this year," added the deputy mayor. The city will apply for a grant from the State Investment Support Fund for accessible housing. City representatives have previously indicated that there is expected to be high demand, as the city has embarked on the construction of municipal apartments after decades.

Production at the Hedva site was definitively terminated in April 1998. The last buildings of the former textile factory, whose history dates back to the second half of the 19th century, were demolished in 2017. Since then, the site in immediate proximity to the city center has been empty. The city purchased the approximately 1.2-hectare area for nearly 34 million crowns from a Plzeň company in 2017. The city originally intended to build the project with developers but ultimately changed its plans. The reason was the possibility of obtaining grants and maintaining the category of municipal apartments.

Another 150 apartments are set to be built in Šumperk on the site of the former Hotel Moravan. The residential project is planned by the investment group Trigema, which purchased the land simultaneously with Hotel Perk. "The intention is to demolish Moravan; the building is already in very poor condition, and instead, we want to construct a residential project with 150 small apartments. We are determined to start construction next spring and to have it completed by the end of 2028," said Marcel Soural, chairman of the investment group's board, to ČTK.

The group intends to sell the apartments fully furnished. "We have a lot of experience with this. Our company has set up an interior design group, consisting of about five interior designers, who help us optimize layouts, furniture designs, and the overall furnishings. We want to test this here to see if the market will accept it," added Marcel Soural. According to him, the new apartments will primarily be intended for sale. Costs are estimated up to 500 million crowns.
