Svitavy - The city of Svitavy has selected a company to repair the indoor swimming pool. The company won with an offer of nearly 206 million crowns excluding VAT. The two parties are expected to sign the contract soon. Work is set to begin in February and finish in September 2025, stated city spokesperson Kateřina Kotasová in a press release.

The Svitavy swimming pool was built in 1994 and has not undergone any significant modernization to date. Since 2016, city representatives have considered a major reconstruction and extension. In the past, the city nearly initiated the project twice but canceled it for economic reasons.

The construction company will be tasked with adding an entrance lobby and a space by the pool, which will include a relaxation hall with loungers and an area for spectators during competitions. This will free up space for a large whirlpool. The plans include window replacement, wall insulation, and shower renovations. It will be necessary to demolish the changing rooms, creating new shared facilities for men and women, with changing booths for privacy. In the pool hall, the builders will replace tiles and insulation and renew the children's pool. They will move and modernize the slide, thus freeing up space for another children's pool.

Three companies applied for the tender, and the city invited them to submit offers; the company VCES won. They offered a price two million lower than the projected one. According to the project budget, the estimated price was 208 million crowns excluding VAT. The city aims to secure a grant of 40 million crowns from the National Sports Agency for the reconstruction, while over 20 million should be obtained from the State Environmental Fund to reduce the energy intensity of the building.

"Before the contract is signed, the contractor must present physical samples of materials and products. Whether the submitted samples meet the conditions set out in the project documentation will be assessed by the designer, the future technical supervision of the investor, and the representative of the pool operator,” Kotasová said.

If everything goes as planned, construction work will begin in February of this year and the completely renovated pool will reopen to visitors in September 2025, the spokesperson added.
