The renovation of the piazzetta of the Vrchlický Theatre in Louky is coming to an end. The area resembles a black-and-white geometric composition created by world-renowned painter and Louky native Zdeněk Sýkora on a metal theatre curtain between 1962 and 1963. The motif symbolically returns to the theatre after more than fifteen years, when the curtain irreversibly disappeared, and a year before the hundredth anniversary of Sýkora's birth. "When they were building the Eiffel Tower, not everyone was enthusiastic. And today it is a symbol of Paris. We believe that Sýkora's piazzetta will also become a symbol of the city of Louky and will be the next landmark and a favorite destination for visitors, following the Church of St. Nicholas," stated Jolana Planičková, chairwoman of the Sýkora 2020 Association. The realization of Sýkora's piazzetta was supported by dozens of donors as part of a public fundraising campaign organized by the Sýkora Association. It raised 1,674,550 crowns. The entire proceeds were handed over to the City of Louky. The highest amount – 850,000 crowns – was donated by Sýkora's wife, Ms. Lenka. The Charter 77 Foundation sent 150,000 crowns, and the Prague Gallery Zdeněk Sklenář supported the piazzetta with 33,333 crowns. The City of Louky is preparing a ceremonial opening of the piazzetta, which will take place on July 15, 2019, at 5:00 PM. The activities of the association do not end here. "We want to continue promoting Sýkora's work and will return to organizing the festival Magic of Light, which showcases audiovisual art," said Jolana Planičková. The third edition of the festival will take place on September 20, 2019.
