Valašské Meziříčí - The terraces of the Žerotín castle in Valašské Meziříčí in the Vsetín region will be beautified by the work "Lípa" by Oldřich Morys. The town hall received 21 proposals from artists from the Czech Republic and Slovakia for the artistic-architectural competition. The expert jury awarded the victory to the proposal by Oldřich Morys, and the city council has now also approved the results of the competition, spokesperson for the town hall Jakub Mikuš informed ČTK today.
The city has prepared the restoration of the castle terraces for this year, aiming to make them accessible to the public. Part of the construction work costing 23.5 million crowns, of which Valašské Meziříčí received an 80 percent European subsidy, includes the creation of an artistic piece. "This is a valuable location in the center of our city with a beautiful view of the Rožnovská Bečva. Therefore, we announced an artistic-architectural competition for the design of an artwork on the theme of communication and connection. I was very pleased that we received a total of 21 proposals from leading Czech and Slovak authors," said Deputy Mayor Yvona Wojaczková (ANO). The assignment also included the requirement that the work reflect Czech-Slovak partnership, mutual cooperation, the reminder of shared history, and friendship.
According to the jurors, most of the proposals were of very high quality. "However, we ultimately agreed unanimously on the winner. The Lípa by Oldřich Morys fits not only appropriately into our concept of the castle terraces with its processing, but it also connects the history of our city with the present," stated Wojaczková.
The work is a copy of a three-hundred-year-old linden tree that was planted by the Žerotín family on the Helštýn hill above the city.
The second place was taken by Jiří Černický with the work "Československý viklan" and third was the proposal by Petr Stanický titled "Útočiště." The town hall is preparing an exhibition of all the proposals submitted to the competition.
