Třeboň - Třeboň, the venue for the annual animated film festival Anifilm, received a grant of 66.4 million CZK from the European IROP program for a museum of animated film. Construction work could begin next September. The so-called House of Animation in the medieval town hall will have four floors covering an area of 650 m², with costs reaching 83.1 million CZK. The house with 65 stations will make the heritage of Czechoslovak animated film accessible.
It is intended to bring closer the legends of animated film as well as contemporary authors and will be accessible year-round.
"People will be able to try out all animation techniques, paper animation, object animation, drawing... The stations will be interactive, the museum is intended to be 4.0. It won't just be showcases with puppets, but it will be in the most modern style. We are very pleased (with the grant), it is a great opportunity for animated film to gain visibility and to familiarize young and the youngest generations with this cultural heritage," said today to ČTK the director of the Anifilm festival Tomáš Rychecký.
"It should be a museum that will celebrate the tradition of animated film in the Czech Republic and here in Třeboň, because animated film has long since settled here with Anifilm and previously with AniFest. The museum should be four-story, presenting the history of animated film from the earliest times to the present. Both children and adults should have the opportunity to create their own animated film. It will be very modern, interactive, and will have transnational significance," said the mayor of Třeboň Terezie Jenisová (KDU-ČSL).
Part of the grant application was the renovation of the Lipovka park in the center. Třeboň spokesperson Jitka Bednářová said the outgoing council had to decide on accepting the grant within 15 days. The new council can still return the grant.
The project was prepared by an eleven-member team of filmmakers and architects around the Anifilm festival. The exhibition is expected to bring closer the personalities of Czechoslovak animated film such as Jiří Trnka or Hermína Týrlová as well as contemporary animators. It ends with the year 2010 and names like Michaela Pavlátová, Aurel Klimt, or Jan Tománek, who filmed the first Czech 3D animated film Kozí příběh.
In September 2019, the city is expected to assign the construction work. The historical town hall currently houses the Třeboň Museum and Gallery and partly the Art School. The House of Animation can only exist after the museum relocates. According to Bednářová, the art school is already prepared to move to new premises.
