Prague - The debris of the collapsed footbridge that connected Prague's Císařský island and Troja will be transported to a nearby concrete plant, where it will be examined by an expert. Petr Dolínek (ČSSD), Deputy Mayor of the capital, told ČTK. A pontoon bridge could temporarily be built at the site in the spring. The footbridge that collapsed on Saturday was not in good condition. The cause of the fall is still unknown. Two people suffered multiple injuries in the accident. Two others escaped with bruises to their backs.

"Now it will be cut and transported to the concrete plant in Troja, where the pieces will be reassembled. It will be cut into two-meter sections and the expert will check the cables," said Dolínek.

A ferry could ply at the site of the collapsed bridge, and a temporary pontoon bridge could be established. "For my part, I would say that the priority is to quickly establish the ferry service and to have a pontoon arranged from the army by spring, which we will discuss tomorrow (Tuesday)," said the Deputy Mayor of Prague 7, Ondřej Mirovský (SZ/Trojkoalice).

The larger part of the 260-meter-long footbridge collapsed into the river. Remnants of the damaged structure remained on both piers. Assessments from previous years had already pointed out the problematic condition of the bridge, built in 1984, so experts continued to monitor it through electronic monitoring. They received reports on their computers every two minutes. Additionally, inspections of all parts were conducted twice a year. The last signal from the electronic monitoring system was sent on Saturday at 13:16, after which the bridge collapsed.
