Prague - Prague will make a necessary change to the zoning plan for the construction of a temporary footbridge in Troja through an accelerated process. City representatives made this decision today. The process should thus be shortened by up to six months, and the plan change could be completed by early 2019. The construction of the footbridge is complicated by the fact that the original one was not included in the zoning plan. The temporary footbridge is intended to replace the bridge that collapsed last December. It is expected to be completed next year.
The expedited proceedings mean that some procedures will be omitted. Specifically, the so-called joint proceedings, which means that the municipal district, the public, and the relevant state administration bodies have only one opportunity to express their opinions on the change and there will be no two-round commentary process.
The lifespan of the temporary footbridge is expected to be 15 to 30 years. The Prague leadership announced a competition for the designer for the placement of the footbridge about a month ago. The footbridge will not be final; that will be selected in an architectural competition. The city plans the architectural competition for the final design of the footbridge for next year.
The Troja footbridge collapsed on Saturday, December 2, in the afternoon, with two of the four injured in serious condition. The case is under investigation by the police. The cause of the collapse is not yet known. A ferry is transporting passengers at the site, with its capacity to be expanded by the end of June, allowing 100 people instead of 30 to fit in the new boat.
