Turnov (Semilsko) - Turnov is searching for a contractor for the construction of the Maškova zahrada sports and recreational complex. The price for building an outdoor swimming pool and an indoor ice rink should not exceed 150 million crowns excluding VAT; otherwise, the city will cancel the competition. Interested parties can submit their offers by May 7, as reported today by ČTK from the public procurement bulletin.
"The construction should begin in July this year. If everything goes well, the swimming pool will be completed by May next year and the second phase of construction, which includes the ice rink, will finish in October 2015," stated Mayor Tomáš Hocke (Independent bloc). The town of fifteen thousand inhabitants currently does not have an outdoor swimming pool or an ice rink. Originally, the city wanted to build the swimming pool and rink separately, but by combining them, it estimates that it will save five to ten million crowns.
Maškova zahrada got its name after the gardener of Prince Rohan. The area used to be an arboretum of a breeding station, which served as a resource collection of woody plants for Sychrov Castle. The city acquired the land in 2000 for 34 million crowns. The purchase price was paid at that time by Turnov patron Bohuslav Jan Horáček, who was also supposed to fund additional construction amounting to nearly one billion crowns. The complex was to include a system of pools and slides, two rinks, a parking area for 400 cars, and an apartment hotel with 180 beds. However, the project was halted in the fall of 2002 due to Horáček's death. In 2011, the city decided to continue the project in a much more modest form.
The construction includes the development of a swimming pool with a system of stainless steel pools, paddling pools, slides, and technical, social, and gastronomic facilities. The contract also includes improvements to additional outdoor areas, including the construction of several sports fields and a skate park, the establishment of new engineering networks, access roads, parking areas, and bike paths. The winning firm should also build a new indoor ice rink, including technology, facilities for athletes and the public, and refreshments.
