Turnov (Semilsko) - The Town Hall of Turnov has completed a plan for the order of construction in the recreational area of Maškova zahrada. The city wants to build a swimming pool first. Work could begin in 2013. After that, an ice rink will follow, Mayor Hana Maierová told reporters today. The project is estimated to cost the city around 160 million crowns. The city will pay for it all itself. The architectural study of the area has been approved by the Turnov councilors, and the city is now preparing to have the project documentation prepared. The study also considers an indoor swimming pool, but it will not be built in Maškova zahrada for now. "A land reserve will be created for an indoor swimming pool here. Since we recently renovated the pool at the grammar school, it is not an urgent need," the mayor explained. The councilors decided that the recreational area will be built in two phases. In 2013 and 2014, the swimming pool with parking spaces and adjacent green areas will be prepared first. In the second phase, which should follow immediately, the ice rink will be constructed. Each phase is expected to cost around 80 million crowns, according to Maierová. "These are amounts that the city will have to budget for," she noted. The recreational complex in Maškova zahrada has been planned for many years. However, after patron Bohuslav Jan Horáček entered the project, the original plan expanded significantly. On an area of six hectares, Horáček wanted to finance the construction of a complex that would include, in addition to a system of pools and slides, two skating rinks, parking for 400 cars, and an apartment hotel with 180 beds. The costs were estimated at nearly a billion crowns at that time. However, the entire project was halted by Horáček's death in the autumn of 2002. The city retained the land, which the town hall had purchased thanks to his support. The town then began to address how to continue with the project, albeit in a much more modest form.
