Already on Monday, May 18th, the event City Week starts in Brno, which aims to awaken residents' interest in their city and the happenings around them. The streets of Brno will transform into shared spaces for sharing, meeting, and fun, which may encourage some people to stop, engage, or at least smile.
The city will come alive with a diverse range of activities organized by various individuals. There will be jamming with different musical instruments and dancing. Fairy tales will be played and screened while eating sausages; elsewhere you'll taste vegan specialties. Together we will ride our bikes on nonexistent bike paths or play golf on a nonexistent course – maybe even with a hoe. There will be spraying and embroidery. We will be able to get new clothes right on the street, and perhaps we'll also meet new friends and acquaintances. We will educate and play. In short, we will enjoy our city.
Streets are not just traffic arteries; life pulses in the streets of the city. During City Week, we want to show that the streets are not or do not have to be a kingdom of cars, but a kingdom of people.
"What will last a week this year could last a month next time, and eventually a whole year. We want to inspire people to spontaneously revive the city all the time, not just during some event. Then it will be easier for all of us to live in it,” said event co-organizer Martin Vyhnal.
