Brno - Brno continues to prepare for the renewal of the tram line from Stránská skála to Líšeň to Holzova street, the matter is currently in the environmental impact assessment phase. This follows from a document on the EIA Information Portal. Regular transport here ceased more than 50 years ago. The renewal of the practically non-existent line will cost between 400 to 450 million crowns, and the new line will follow the former railway bed. Construction is expected to take one and a half years, and it should be completed by 2020 at the latest.
The city will use funds from European sources amounting to 85 percent for the construction. The line will serve the old Líšeň and also the newly planned development. After regular transport ended in the 1960s, one track was used by the Technical Museum in Brno for transporting exhibits, as there is a depot for trams and other rail vehicles on Holzova street. Since 2002, the line has been completely inaccessible and is deteriorating.
There are currently three stops planned along the more than three-kilometer section. The Stránská skála stop will be new, while the current one will be discontinued. Additionally, there will be stops at U proluky and the final stop, Muzeum dopravy, which will provide an easy transfer to the bus.
Residents of the adjacent Holzova street were concerned about the increase in noise, so several dozen meters of soundproof wall will be constructed. The surrounding area will also be adjusted so that the tram does not create a new barrier. Initially, only the extended line 10 will operate on the line, running every ten minutes during peak hours.
The project will also include a year-long reconstruction of the line to Stránská skála, which branches off from the line to Mifkovu.
Brno has been preparing new tram lines for years, and this one is expected to outpace all the others because it is officially just a renewal. Gradually, the line from Dornychu to Plotní street is also expected to be relocated, a branch to the Bohunice campus is set to be built, and the continuation of the line in Bystrc to Kamechy is planned. The extension of the tram to Lesná from the Štefánikova quarter is further down the line.
