Uherské Hradiště - Uherské Hradiště has completed the second phase of the reconstruction of the cinema Hvězda. It started last August and included, among other things, the adjustment of the cinema hall for lecture and congress purposes as well as equipping it with 3D technology. Total costs for the reconstruction are around 40 million crowns, with about 15 million CZK obtained by the town hall from European funds. This was stated today to journalists by Deputy Mayor Stanislav Blaha (ODS) and the Director of the Municipal Cinemas of Uherské Hradiště, Josef Korvas.

The cinema hall has been adapted for multifunctional use. It now has 348 seats, 252 of which are equipped with folding tables for lectures and congresses. Before the renovation, cinema Hvězda had 424 seats. The hall also features new theatrical lighting, the curtain has been refurbished, and the hall has been newly soundproofed. The first viewers can see the Brazilian film Rio, the fourth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, or the Czech film In the Blanket today.
"The hall has new acoustic paneling, which significantly enhances the sound quality of screenings and spoken word. We also have wider seats with greater spacing between the rows, which was a major disadvantage in the past; many viewers have complained about this in recent years," said Korvas. The projection booth is positioned to allow for outdoor screenings in the adjacent Smetana Gardens. "This will be a very significant enrichment, for example, during the Summer Film School," added Blaha.
The foyer and café areas of the cinema have also been changed, where a new glass elevator has been constructed to ensure access for disabled persons and supply to the café. Exhibitions and discussions are planned to take place in the foyer. It also includes an information desk with three LCD screens and a ticket office. The café is equipped with a bar counter, has seating both inside and outside, and also renovated toilets.
The ceiling vault of the cinema has restored outdoor respirium intended for small cultural events. The grassy dome features a chamber stage with a wooden platform and seating for several dozen viewers, accessible from the foyer. Offices for cinema staff have also been renovated. Backstage, a dressing room for performers has been built, which also serves as a room for translators.
Uherské Hradiště started the reconstruction of cinema Hvězda back in 2009. The first phase of work included static stabilization of the outdoor balconies and access stairs, costing 14 million crowns. According to Blaha, there are plans for a renovation of the cinema's basement, where a disco used to be located, later this year. In the future, a small screening room might be created there. Estimated costs are around ten million CZK.
Uherské Hradiště was the last district without a widescreen cinema in the then South Moravian Region in the 1950s. Cinema Hvězda was ceremoniously opened on October 6, 1967, with the screening of František Vláčil's film Marketa Lazarová. The project, costing 5.5 million crowns, gradually became the center of film activity in the region.
