Karlovy Vary - The city of Karlovy Vary today announced a competition for the best proposal for an urban planning solution for the broader center of the city. This concerns an area of about 100 hectares from Sokolovská Street to Moskevská, in the center of which is the lower Karlovy Vary railway station. The proposal should include both a plan for the use of individual parts of the area and a transportation solution, said Jaroslav Růžička (independent), deputy mayor of Karlovy Vary, to reporters today. The proposal for the sites should establish principles for the functional and spatial arrangement and the urban framework for its completion or reconstruction. "We have some proposals, but we want to get a proposal from experts. The winner of the competition will then have the opportunity to enter into a contract with the city to develop a study for this area," Růžička stated. The competition concerns a relatively large area, where, in addition to the bus and train station, there is also a former brewery and extensive areas near the former winter stadium. The criteria and subsequent evaluation are the responsibility of an eleven-member committee composed largely of independent experts. This committee will select the winning proposal. The first three evaluated proposals will receive rewards of 250,000, 170,000, and 100,000 crowns, respectively. "In the preparation of the subsequent study, it will be possible to incorporate ideas not only from the winning proposal but also from other participants," Růžička added. Interested parties can apply until April 23, and the evaluation of the competition could take place at the turn of May or June. The city will then decide whether to use the proposals for developing a more detailed study of the future shape of this part of the spa town.
