Ústí nad Labem - The object of the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University (UJEP) in Ústí nad Labem on Hoření street, which was purchased by the city last year for 61 million crowns, will serve as housing for seniors. Pensioners will be able to rent apartments and utilize the city's care services. Currently, the city is working on commissioning a study that will determine the extent of repairs and investments. However, the city council has already approved the replacement of windows for 1.5 million crowns. This was stated by the city spokeswoman Romana Macová.

"The current windows in the accommodation part of the Hoření complex are in a state of disrepair; to minimize heat losses, the window frames are sealed. Their reactivation is not technically possible," the spokeswoman stated. The city will repay the university for the building over three years. In recent years, UJEP has only used two floors out of 12, as the building previously served as student accommodation.

In addition to the reconstruction of the building on Hoření, the city plans to build barrier-free access to the nearby park and shopping zone. It also wants to bridge Hoření and Krušnohorská streets. "The city council has allocated 4.5 million crowns from the investment reserve of the budget of the financial department," Macová said, noting that new apartment buildings are also planned for the area. According to the spokeswoman, the adjustment of the area could be covered by grants from the Integrated Regional Operational Program (IROP) by 85 percent.

Near the object is the former Máj hotel, which is in a dilapidated state. The ruin is inhabited by the homeless and drug addicts, and firefighters have intervened there several times due to fires. According to the spokeswoman, the hotel is not owned by the city, and any potential demolition would have to be carried out by its owner.
